Introducing Our New Harrogate Forest School Leaders

Claire and Sarah explain the benefits of forest school sessions at Little Crickets.

At Little Crickets Pre-school, we believe that learning doesn’t just happen indoors — it thrives in the heart of nature. That’s why we’re proud to offer Harrogate Forest School sessions led by our experienced and passionate Forest School Leaders, Claire and Sarah. These sessions give children the opportunity to explore the natural world, develop essential life skills, and grow in confidence — all while having fun outdoors!

Here are just a few of the amazing benefits our Forest School sessions offer:

1. Builds Confidence and Independence

Claire and Sarah encourage children to take appropriate risks, make decisions, and try new things in a safe and supportive environment. Whether it’s climbing, building dens, or identifying plants, children develop confidence in their abilities and a strong sense of independence.

2. Boosts Physical Development

Outdoor exploration naturally supports physical activity. Running, balancing, digging, and climbing help children strengthen their muscles, improve coordination, and develop gross and fine motor skills.

3. Enhances Communication and Social Skills

Working together in nature gives children countless opportunities to collaborate, problem-solve, and communicate. Claire and Sarah create activities that encourage teamwork, building strong bonds and enhancing children’s ability to express themselves clearly.

4. Fosters Curiosity and a Love for Learning

The ever-changing natural environment is full of opportunities for discovery. Whether it’s spotting a squirrel, listening to birdsong, or exploring the texture of tree bark, Forest School sessions nurture curiosity and a deep connection to the world around them.

5. Supports Emotional Wellbeing

Spending time outdoors reduces stress and anxiety, even in young children. Claire and Sarah create a calm, nurturing space where children feel free to be themselves. Nature becomes a place of comfort, resilience, and joy.

6. Encourages Environmental Stewardship

Children who play and learn in nature grow up with a deeper understanding of the environment. Claire and Sarah help children develop respect and care for the natural world, laying the foundation for a lifetime of sustainable thinking.
